Listening to the community is an essential ingredient in the recipe of local government success. Being ready and able to hear clearly, to engage in an honest and open conversation about problems, wants and wishes, and dreams of the future, ignites the fuel for building strategic community goals. The community wants a sustainable future and progress in a few specific areas. The Sarasota Board of County Commissioners, following extensive conversations about these objectives, identified the strategic initiatives for Sarasota County. The County has aligned its core services to these initiatives, and established measures of performance and accountability from community outcome to individual performance. This system of alignment has been facilitated by a management system called “GovMax”.
Developed by Sarasota County, GovMax is a web-based application that integrates:
- strategic planning
- business planning
- performance management
- budgeting (operating and capital)
It was designed to help public sector agencies maximize performance, investments and results. The only integrated system of its type designed specifically for government organizations, GovMax provides greater staff and technology efficiency, better accountability for the value of services delivered, and more effective means of communicating outcomes to the taxpaying public.
